GETTING there …
Plenty of flight options to the Canary Islands, from the three main airports in Ireland, we have been to the four well known tourist islands many times over the years and they are indistinct in many instances. They all share a constant year round sunny climate, nothing extreme as in mainland Spain, so an ideal winter retreat, with summer more out than in prime season. However, moving away from the the gaudy stretch of plastic trinket shops, cheap English breakfast establishments, and densely packed golden stretches of beach, Adeje offers a more upmarket and pleasant experience albeit at more cost.
A short trip in from the airport TFS, Adeje offers plenty of 5* accommodation to suit anyone’s needs, the most memorable and well appointed the Gran Tacande is where we have stayed the most. See some hotel links below.
HOTEL…
The best rooms are on Gold level where you can enjoy small private pool area, with waiter service that includes complimentary beer, soft drinks and Cava throughout the day, together with a small lunch menu.
The hotel sits above a small shopping centre that has a supermarket and a number of clothing outlets and cafes. Close by is a bigger complex Plaza De Duque with designer stores, and being December, plenty of festive bunting. See links below.
The hotel is ideally located for walking along the promenade to the main restaurant/bar area of Adeje. Not to mention fantastic shopping with Centro Commercial Plaza Del Duque on the doorstep! Michelle managed to spend lots of time engaing in fav past time in the shops including Hugo Boss, Armani, Espirit , Mango & Max Mara! Other hotels we have stayed in include GF Gran hotel & we are also fans of Royal Hideaway but it is in more secluded area little away from main Adeje thoroughfare .
Or you can walk to a far more interesting area of La Caleta which has plenty of small intimate restaurants overlooking the bay.
Wherever we go in the world we always check out a local Indian Restaurant !!
Best of both worlds –cheap lager and picture menus !
GOLF: No Holiday would be complete for himself without a round of golf !! In Adeje there were number of courses close by but Magnolia Golf Resort probably closest.
SPA: Many of the hotels have fabulous spas such as Bahia Del Duque if you feel like little relaxing time out of the sunshine or in the off chance of some rain which we did have on last visit ! In fact it rained for an entire day !
THINGS TO DO Other than sunbath :
Siam Park: A fun day out waterpark is on the door step of Adeje but don’t worry if water slides & adventure is ont your thing it has a fabulous man made beach ! The beach has the whitest and brightest natural sand of the Canary Islands! There are daily return coaches from most hotels .
Barrabco del Infierno : The Special Nature Reserve Barranco del Infierno is a place where only 300 people are allowed to enter a day in order to preserve the environment and not alter the development of the species, the flora and fauna.
Siam Mall : With over 70 shops this is the shoppers paradise from Massimo Dutti to Guess to Timberland and lots in between ! They also operte a free bus daily.
La Caleta National Park : Treasue in the middle of tourists ! Beautiful bay where you take ladder into the ocean and lots of restuarant & bars for a post swim cocktail or bite to eat ! Is walkable from Adege but can take a cab €6 each way .
Loro Parque,Puerto de la Cruz – Animal Embassy located North of the island but very accessible from Adeje by car (little over an hour)or bus
